TOPICS INCLUDE:

  • "Ibogaine as Therapy: Sandra Karpetas Speaks..." In an interview by Jon Hanna, Karpetas describes how she first got interested in psychedelics and harm reduction, and what ultimately led her to work with ibogaine therapy in Canada. Extracted from the African plant Tabernanthe iboga, ibogaine is being used with remarkable success in the experimental treatment of drug addicts, helping them to kick heroin, cocaine, and other substances of abuse.

  • "Modern Psychedelic Art's Origins as a Product of Clinical Experimentation" by R. Stuart explodes the myth that psychedelic art began as a product of the 1960s counter-culture. Beginning with mescaline in the 1920s, Stuart catalogs numerous examples of art produced in laboratory settings before psychedelics were demonized and made illegal. Rare illustrations of the art produced during some of these experiments are included.

  • "Network Feedback" provides more new reports on experiences with memantine hydrochloride, describes experiments with Mitragyna speciosa (including its use to help heroin addicts deal with their withdrawal symptoms while kicking), relates a report of using Anadenanthera colubrina as an ayahuasca analogue, presents details of 5-MeO-AMT trips, and discusses 5-MeO-DALT: a new research chemical making the rounds.

  • "Events Calendar" tells of the latest happenings, including the next Ayahuasca Healing Retreat in Brazil (http://www.ayahuasca-healing.net), the Telluride Mushroom Festival in Colorado (http://www.shroomfestival.com), EntheoVision 2 in Berlin, Germany (http://www.entheovision.de), and the BOOM Festival in Portugal (http://www.boomfestival.org).

  • "Sources" provides details about an upstart ayahuasca center, a group opposing the anti-rave laws, and a comprehensive new bookshop geared toward psychedelics in the United Kingdom.

  • "Book Reviews" present a spirited debate with criticism (by Edzard Klapp) and defense (by Ulrich Holbein) of Witchcraft Medicine: Healing Arts, Shamanic Practices, and Forbidden Plants by Claudia Müller-Ebeling, Christian Rätsch, and Wolf-Dieter Storl.
